Back in 1950 a man by the name of Glen Wood decided to try racing. Some 67 years later the famed Wood Brothers Racing Team and driver Ryan Blaney scored their 99th win this past weekend in Pocono. We all know it’s impossible to win a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race these days without having a good pit crew! For the guys on the #21 Ford it started off a bit rough due to having to pit for a possible loose right front wheel after the 1st pit stop. They regained their composure and gave their driver good stops the rest of the race.

“We started off the day with a two tire, right side only pit stop and I don’t think I got the right front wheel tight so we had to pit again” said Ryan Flores, the Front Tire Changer. “It was a kick in the groin to start out this way because we had a really fast car. Everyone on this team pulled together and Jeremy (Crew Chief) came up with some really good strategy the rest of the day to get our track position back. The last stop we actually beat the #78 off pit road which let us line up as the 1st car with four fresh tires. From there on it was all Blaney that drove to the front and stayed there! This is my first cup win as a tire changer and growing up as a racer from New Jersey, I can’t describe how cool it is to be part of the Wood Brothers team and being in Victory Lane!”

Let’s meet the Over the Wall crew that celebrated a huge victory in Pocono:

Ryan Flores: Front Tire Changer
Jesse Mills: Front Tire Carrier
Chris Conklin: Jackman
Shannon Myers: Rear Tire Changer
Wade Moore: Rear Tire Carrier
Andrew Lackey: Gasman

Most of these guys have worked together for a couple years now and no doubt this is not the last time we will see them in Victory Lane. Congrats to each of them and it just wouldn’t be right for me not to give a shout out to the pit coaches that work with these guys day in and day out, Trent Cherry and Brian Haaland along with their entire staff.
Congrats to everyone at the Wood Brothers Racing Team on a great race win. I’m certain win #100 isn’t far away!
